Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan marks its 25th year with 25 special anniversary grant awards, ArtServe Michigan and 24 other nonprofits honored

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan marked the impact they’ve made to the seven-county southeast Michigan area over the past 25 years by awarding $25,000 anniversary grants to 25 nonprofit organizations in the region – a total contribution of $625,000.  ArtServe Michigan is honored to be among the 25 organizations recognized and deeply grateful to the Foundation for this most generous affirmation of its work to advocate for the importance of arts, culture and arts education in Michigan and its communities.  The surprise announcement was made by the Foundation’s President Miriam Noland during the CFSEM anniversary luncheon on June 3rd, opening a year-long celebration of the community-building legacy that will continue to grow thanks to the Foundation’s initiatives in southeast Michigan and the generosity of individuals and organizations that have contributed to the CFSEM endowment fund.

Congratulations to our partner organizations in Southeast Michigan that were also honored along with ArtServe Michigan: ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services), CARE (Community Assessment, Referral and Education), Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County, Common Ground, Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, Downriver Community Conference, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, The Greening of Detroit , JVS, LACASA (Livingston Area Council Against Spousal Abuse), Michigan Nonprofit Association, Michigan Suburbs Alliance, Mosaic Youth Theatre , Neighborhood Service Organization, NEW (Nonprofit Enterprise at Work), New Center Community Mental Health Services, New Detroit Inc., Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, Southwest Detroit Business Association, Sphinx Organization, University of Michigan School of Public Health, WARM Training Center, Wayne State University/Adams Entrepreneurial Fellowship

ArtServe Michigan Planning New Event to Challenge Arts and Cultural Advocates

Many of you have been wondering whether ArtServe will be announcing plans for this year’s Governor’s Awards for Arts & Culture and you’ve been inquiring about the awards nominations process.  After careful consideration, ArtServe will not host its traditional Governor’s Awards for Arts & Culture event in 2009 based on concerns regarding the economic climate and its impact on the feasibility and appropriateness of this annual gala.  However, ArtServe remains committed to the importance of celebrating the contributions of Michigan’s arts and cultural sector and anticipates bringing the Governor’s Awards event back as early as next year.

Planning is underway for a new fall event designed to challenge arts and cultural supporters to engage in the grassroots network that fuels ArtServe’s work as the statewide organization dedicated to leading advocacy initiatives for arts, culture and arts education in Michigan.  The event will feature a new twist on our annual awards recognition – ArtServe remains committed to continuing its efforts to celebrate significant contributions to the arts and cultural sector in our state.  And, thanks to generous contributions by the Masco Corporation Foundation and Skidmore, we will premiere a new video at this event that is designed to spread the message on how critically important arts, culture and arts education is for our future.  Watch our website for the official announcement!
